Upuaut, der Totengott

Upuaut ist eine altägyptische Gottheit.

Upuaut auch:

  • Ophois (griechisch)
  • Wepwawet

war:

  • Totengott
  • Kriegsgott

Upuaut, der Name, bedeutet Wegöffner, womit vermutlich sein Vorausgehen im Kampf gemeint sein könnte.

Aber auch dem Gott Osiris schritt Upuaut voraus.

Upuaut öffnete den Verstorbenen den Weg ins Duat, ins Jenseits.

Dargestellt wurde Upuaut als Wolf oder Schakal, meist stehend, seltener liegend.

Hauptkultort des Upuaut war Assiut (griechisch Lykopolis).
